The Catkin project is a captivating cozy survival adventure game where players immerse themselves in a magical world as a cat. Drawing inspiration from Stardew Valley, Stray, and Ark: Survival Evolved, Catkin offers a unique blend of survival mechanics, crafting, and community-building, all experienced from the perspective of a cat. This immersive experience will engage players with a charming, magical world, emphasizing both exploration and the joys of survival.

Role and Responsibilities

As the Gameplay Programmer, you will focus on implementing Catkin‘s core gameplay mechanics, including companion systems, crafting, magic abilities, and other interactive elements. This role involves translating design concepts into functional, engaging gameplay experiences. You’ll work closely with the design team to ensure that all gameplay mechanics are well-integrated, responsive, and immersive. Success in this role requires creative and technical problem-solving, as well as adapting mechanics based on player feedback and playtesting data.

Team Structure and Collaboration

You’ll join a collaborative team of four developers: a Lead Developer, a Networking Specialist, a QA Specialist, and a UI/UX Developer along with a Community Manager. Weekly team meetings provide opportunities for cross-functional input, ensuring a cohesive design process.

Duration

Contract Timeline: This is a 12-month contract, beginning on the candidate’s start date. Start dates are flexible but will be finalized upon offer.
Possibility for Renewal: Based on project requirements and performance.

Compensation

Monthly Rate: $5,760
Payment Schedule: Payments are issued monthly, on the last day of each month. The first payment will be made on the final day of the first month following the start date.
Profit-Sharing: Equal share of a 6% profit-sharing pool, divided among six team members.

Working Conditions

This position may require adaptability in working hours due to a tight project timeline. Weekly team meetings will ensure alignment and progress.

Tech Stack, Tools, and Applicant Requirements

Required Tools: Expertise in Unreal Engine 5, Adobe products, and layer.ai.
Experience: Strong background in gameplay programming with an understanding of creating interactive, player-focused mechanics.
Skills: Solid programming skills, ability to work with animation and physics, and adaptability to adjust features for optimal player experience.
Collaboration: Effective communicator with the ability to work in sync with design and QA teams in a collaborative, remote environment.
